The Proposal

Now, most women think about their proposals as romantic or the best day of their lives. Yes, it was one of the happiest days of my life, but I was so sore the day of my proposal and not a happy camper. Here's our story.

My fiance Reuben decided to take a four day trip to the mountains for his birthday. I was excited and kind of thinking to myself a romantic get-away together would be perfect and he is probably going to propose. I was anxious for the proposal and just new that he was going to propose soon. We made it to the mountains and the resort was beautiful, but he still didn't pop the question the first night.

Day two: We went horse-back riding with another couple up a mountain on a warm and comfortable day. And you know what, the crazy man still didn't propose. My butt and legs were sore and I was still short an engagement ring. I began to wonder if he was even going to proposal while we were vacationing in the mountains, so I looked to enjoying the atmosphere and the time alone I had with Reuben. He constantly dropped hints that he would propose to me sooner rather than later through the whole process and it was starting to drive me nuts.

Day three: Reuben decided that we should climb to the top of Chimney Rock bright and early to avoid the fore casted afternoon rains. Now, I haven't been on a horse in 5 years and I'm here to tell you that although you never forget how to hop onto that horse, you still feel the pain of unused muscles. We made it halfway up and I was ready to call it quits, Reuben however was not. He wanted to push forward to the top no matter what. As a girl who speaks her mind I replied, "I love you, but I do not like you right now." Little did I know that when we reached the top of the mountain he had a surprise for me.

I collapsed on the closest boulder and took pictures of the landscape as Reuben walked around. He didn't look winded at all and seemed to be in deep concentration. Reuben called me over and says lets take some pictures.  I was too busy fiddling with my camera that I didn't realize that he was bending down to propose. I even took a motion picture of him bending down to propose.

Talk about a moment to be at a loss for words. I started laughing in order to avoid crying and I covered my face. He was on his knees for so long he replied, "I can't get up until you give me an answer." I said yes of course, held out my hand, and continued to cover my face.

I skipped all the way down the mountain and as soon as I could I called my mother. I was so excited to get home and be with my family that I wanted to return home a day early. I love my Reuben and sitting here typing this is giving me the biggest smile.
